Lisa Middleton, a La Crosse, Wis., native, creates art on an unusual medium: reproductions of historic maps.

Middleton gets high-quality scans of historic maps printed in black and white, and transforms those prints into art depicting maps of places around the world. She uses watercolors and other materials to give the maps antique character.

She will be making the trek from her current residence, outside of Glacier National Park in Montana, to the Upper Mississippi River to display her work in galleries in Minnesota and Wisconsin in June and July. Her shows will include historic maps of Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan.

Shows are scheduled as follows: at the Blooming Grounds Coffee House in downtown Winona from June 8 to 27 and all summer at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum Gift Shop; at Artspire in La Crosse, Wis., Friday and Saturday; at Prairie Du Chien Rendevous in Prairie Du Chien, Wis. from June 18 to 21; at Cash and Carry Wholesale in Madison, Wis.; from June 18 to 21, at Wine Guyz in La Crosse, Wis., in the entire month of July with a meet the artist reception on July 2; and at Riverfest in La Crosse, Wis., from July 1 through 4.
