Give the Gift of the Old West

01 Dec

Whether you live in a place like Kalispell, Montana, or a metropolis like New York City, there is something about the Old West that inspires us. It’s always been that way right? Perhaps it is the rugged nature of the wilderness that is somehow beautiful in its own way. Maybe it is the history of the region that calls us back to a simpler time. It could even be the nostalgic reminder of entire communities developed by those who had the courage to head west and make it work.

Who knows, there is just something about the big skies and wide open spaces of the rugged Old West that expands us as people. Why not put a piece of that inspiration in your home or office? We have some of the best custom maps of the Old West that you have ever seen. Our quality pieces are sure to please. Careful attention to detail in regards to topography and history have been given to make sure these hand painted antique maps evoke the spirit and pride of the Old West. They give you a glimpse of people that lived long before, but there is more to them than that. They tell a story of triumph, perseverance, and independence. It’s the stuff that made us into the great nation we are today.

As such, they make great gifts, or home décor additions because they are grand statement pieces. There are several ways a hand painted antique map from our Old West Collection could dress up a space, or become the perfect gift. All it takes a little thought.

For instance, they are the perfect gift for those living in a historic home. It fits with the theme and is a great way to showcase the history of the area. These types of maps also make great gifts for people who are new to the area. A map from the Great River Arts Old West Collection gives a sense of grounding. If you need some ideas, take a look at the maps featured below. These are some of my favorite pieces. Any of them would make a great gift.

My Favorite Maps From Our Old West Collection

Flathead Lake Montana. This is one of my favorites. It features my home state and a simply fantastic location. There is so much to see and do on Flathead Lake. This rendition almost has you feeling like you have stepped back in time a bit. This piece is an instant classic!

Beautiful coloring in this piece!

Coachella Valley. Before it was known for glitz, glamour and a respite for Hollywood celebrities, Coachella was known for being wild and untamed. This map speaks to the rigged nature of the region, while giving head nods to a more modern time period.

You can almost hear the cowboys call out to the cattle herd if you stare at this piece long enough. It is inspiring.

Gotha Southwest 1872. This is one of my favorites because of the cartographer, Adolf Steiler was known for his detail and this map has plenty of it. He was a firm believer in placing as much information on a map as possible. Because of that, we have a stunning piece of Old West history. Simply beautiful.

This is a beautiful example of early North America. Steiler created stunning maps.
